St. Thomas More College Żejtun Primary A

Å»ejtun Primary School was built by the British while they were in Malta.  It was designed in the neoclassical style, according to the plan of a Maltese architect towards the beginning of the 20th century.  Regarding architecture, this is one of Malta’s finest schools and it served as a hospital for British Servicemen in the Second World War.

Originally, the school was named after the priest Dun Alwig Camilleri. The school was officially opened on the 11th June 1908. The present building houses both Å»ejtun Primary A and Å»ejtun Primary B. Extension works were carried out between 1955 and 1956 and 22 classes were added to the school.  A Kindergarten section was built near the school in 1987, and was later enlarged in 1999, by adding 4 more classrooms and a playground.  Nowadays both Å»ejtun Primary A and Å»ejtun Primary B are part of St Thomas More College, together with 8 other state schools in the South East part of the island.

Our school comprises of pupils aged between 2 years and 9 months and 7-8 years of age, i.e. from Kindergarten 1 to Year 3.  Apart from teaching the core subjects, Mathematics, English, Maltese, Religion and Social Studies, our school enhances children’s interest towards areas of joy and fulfilment such as Science, Drama, Music, Physical Education, Arts & Craft and Digital Literacy, where Peripatetic teachers are an asset in this matter.  We have a popolution of 446 children of whom 198 are in the Kinder section and 248 are in the Primary A section.  We have 15 classes in the the Kinder section and 13 in the Primary A section.  Our staff is made up of the Senior Leadership Team, Clerks, Ancillary staff, Kindergarten Educators, Teachers and Learning Support Educators.  The Maltese schools, including ours, offer a policy of Inclusive Education that is available and accessible to all learners and of all ages, including those facing challenges, such as those with special needs or who have a disability, those originating from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, migrant backgrounds or geographically depressed areas, regardless of sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion of belief, age or sexual orientation. In fact our school strives to do the utmost to provide the pupils with an education of an assured quality within a caring community in which all individuals are given opportunities to develop their full potential.  Our school mission statement is: ‘In our school no one may fall behind.  Every child is considered unique and given individual attention, in order to provide the best opportunities for teaching and learning.’
